DVSA have updated the current guidance for Driver CPC and Carriage of Dangerous Goods Training.
Driver CPC Periodic Training
Employers and training providers must reduce the spread of the virus by following Public Health England guidance/advice for employers to make sure their workplace is Covid-secure.
Employers and training providers providing Driver CPC periodic training should deliver this training remotely wherever possible until restrictions in England are lifted. However, where necessary, essential Driver CPC periodic training can be delivered to their own employees using their own trainers on their own site.
Employers and training providers should not use third party trainers at their own site or arrange for their employees to be trained at a third-party site.
ADR Training and Examinations
The current ADR qualification extensions will not be extended beyond 28th February 2021.
Employers and training providers must reduce the spread of the virus by following Public Health England guidance/advice for employers to make sure their workplace and classroom is Covid-secure.
Employers and training providers can, if necessary, continue providing classroom-based dangerous goods (ADR) training to their own employees using their own trainers on their own site.
Employers and training providers should not use third party trainers at their own site or arrange for their employees to be trained at a third-party site.
Classroom based examinations can continue providing the rooms are Covid-secure.
These restrictions will remain in place until the next formal Government review.
DVSA reminds employers and training providers that: “Fleet driver training and assessment is an important part of occupational road safety. This activity provides additional training or assessment to a qualified driver ensuring they are competent to drive a company vehicle. Such assessments are often a condition of commercial motor insurance, condition of employment and an important requirement of driver safety policy. It is for the employer to conduct their own risk assessment in line with their health and safety policies and justify any in-vehicle activity that they allow to proceed.”
